CLBC requirement for all staff in the field. These are the basics training you will need to work in this field. 

1. First Aid, Standard first aid and CPR

2. TBtest  Done at any clinic in town

3. Criminal record check, Must be done by us with your consent

4. Drivers abstract, can be done online, takes a few minutes

5. Usually Class 4 but at Individuals Pursuits Class 5 is fine 

6. Become a BCGEU member, done by our local shop stewart 

7. Food safe

General Expectations of Staff Members

·       Maintenance of a positive attitude toward the clients, other staff, and the organization

·       To work toward meeting of program and contracted goals

·       Knowledge of special needs and preferences of the client group

·       Innovation and informality as well as a positive approach in the teaching methods used toward clients

·       To be aware of their position as a role model to clients

·       To ensure that each client has an opportunity to experience other activities by evaluating and changing their existing pursuits from time to time, and that the activities are age appropriate, within the physical ability and the attention span of the individual

·       To encourage individuals to develop satisfying social relationships with peers

·       To be knowledgeable of and to respect the client’s rights

·       To be familiar with reporting requirements and to comply with them

·       To attend all meetings as scheduled, including staff meetings, meetings with social workers, parents, and/or caregivers. As well all workshops and or training seminars.

·       To ensure, by follow-up with the Coordinator if necessary, that all client information is accurate, up to date, and complete

·       To report immediately to their Coordinator any concerns about whether there are problems, or changes in behaviour, appearance, hygiene, etc. (at home or in the program)

·       To speak to the Coordinator if uncertain about any policy or procedure

·       To be able to request and accept professional support when needed

·       To know and be familiar with the program’s use of community resources and the program in general

·       To be knowledgeable of how to handle varied situations, both in the facility and the community

·       To know how to inform the general public about the program and the clientele we serve

·       To be effective in client problem resolution in an empathetic, consistent, respectful and objective way, while allowing the individual client the opportunity to resolve the problem on their own if possible

·       To maintain steady communication with all concerned parties

·       To be aware of any conflicts which may arise from time to time, and assure that they will be resolved as quickly as possible fostering a clear and open communication style at the facility
